buffer-pane

buffer-panev0.2.0MIT

A pane beside the transcript that holds the next things to tell the agent: write blocks of text while a turn runs, then press [+] to put one block into the prompt box.

Install

claude plugin marketplace add meganemura/buffer-pane
claude plugin install buffer-pane@buffer-pane

An idea for the next request often comes while the agent runs a long turn. Text in the prompt box is one Enter away from the agent, and Enter interrupts the turn or puts the text in the queue. buffer-pane is a Claude Code plugin, a Claude Mod, that opens a pane beside the transcript where you collect that text until you are ready. It works only in Claude Code, in a terminal session or in the Code tab of Claude Code Desktop. Print mode (-p) has no pane.

  • Blocks while a turn runs. Type in the last field and press Enter to add a block. Blank lines split the buffer into blocks, and in this version one block is one line.
  • [+] fills the prompt box. The block replaces all the text in the prompt box and stays in the pane with a ✓. The plugin cannot read the prompt box, so press [+] when the box is empty.
  • [>] sends the block. The block goes to the agent as your next prompt and leaves the pane. During a turn, it waits in the queue until the turn ends.
  • Order and removal. [^] and [v] move a block, and [x] deletes it.
  • A buffer per directory. Claude Code’s plugin store holds the buffer under buffer:<working directory>, so it survives sessions and each directory has its own.

The agent sees a block only when you send it. [>] sends it as your next prompt, and [+] puts it in the prompt box for you to read and send with Enter. Until then, the text stays in the pane and does not interrupt the turn.

buffer-pane needs Claude Code 2.1.273 or later, with CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_FUNCTION_HOOKS=1.

Terminal window
claude plugin marketplace add meganemura/buffer-pane
claude plugin install buffer-pane@buffer-pane

In the Code tab of Claude Code Desktop, a plugin installed at the user scope with these commands loads too. /plugin does not run in the desktop app, so to install from the app, click + beside the prompt box, then Plugins, then Add marketplace with meganemura/buffer-pane, then Add plugin.

Type /buffer-pane to show the pane, and type it again to hide it. The README marks the plugin as early access, because the function-hooks API can change between Claude Code releases.
